One thing I do all the time, is buy new materials to "play with"!! I got this awesome cotton woven cord and just had to make something immediately!- could not think about anything else but ideas for that cord! Here is one of them :-) White freshwater pearls, Navy blue freshwater pearl, Swarovski 3mm clear AB faceted crystals and 4mm woven cotton cord!

Simply Fascinating!
I have a very good friend who is a member of the Red Hat Society http://www.redhatsociety.com/ recently asked if I would make her a fascinator since she abhors wearing hats! I had never made one before but I am always up for a challenge! Especially when this challenge would include materials I have never worked with (or played with) before!!! I first picked out about 25 feathers in red and purple colors and set them aside (after teasing the kitten with an ugly feather into a pile of amped up energy and spooky fur) Second, I gathered my scissors, silk cord, beading needle (medium size), small tube of super glue, rhinestone button, metal comb and my can-do attitude! I carefully sewed each and every feather with the silk cord onto the comb, making sure to not break the spine or to crumple the edges. I added the rhinestone clasp last, sewing it into place and tying off the knot and threading the knot back through the feathers into the soft under side. I added a small piece of felt (with a tiny amount of super glue) to the back of my comb to protect the scalp from the cut ends of my long feathers and to also hide my final knot from the silk line for a finished look. About 2 hours, 8 feet of silk cord, 20 feathers, 1 rhinestone button, 1 soft piece of felt and a smidge of superglue and TA- DAAAAAA! This is my very first hair fascinator comb!

THIS is why I make jewelry!
There is something so magical about weddings. It isn't just the dressing up, eating cake, dancing or even being with your family and friends. There is this undefinable magical quality about them. The music starts, everyone turns and GASP Here she comes. My pulse races, my heart pounds, I suddenly have to think about anything else to keep the tears at bay. (yes I cry at weddings......every single one) Every eye is riveted on this almost supernaturally glowing and beautiful bride floating up the aisle. Then comes the moment when the Bride and Groom are finally standing with eyes locked on one another. As far as I'm concerned- the whole rest of the wedding is an afterglow of this one quiet, brilliant moment. He's looking at her, she's looking at him and they don't see anyone else. We as family and friends get just this little look at absolute, pure love. I have only seen this look one other place and time, and that is when a brand new parent looks upon their brand new baby. There is nothing more precious or amazing a gift than Love. I am honored to be even a small part of such a miracle.

I didn't sleep for 5 days (I mean 2 hours a night, ask hubby I was a wreck!) because I was obsessed with this necklace. I wanted each and every pearl to be perfect and hang just where I wanted them etc. So here she is! Hand sewn pearl brooch, 10mm and 6mm creamy ivory pearls, antiqued brass clasps and ends and findings and a TON of care and love. It was Worth it.
